Colombia officials say stolen Garcia Marquez book recovered

Associated Press8 May 2015 19:11-04:00

(AP) — Colombia’s National Police force says authorities have recovered a valuable first edition copy of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s masterpiece “One Hundred Years of Solitude.”

The book was taken last weekend from a locked display case at Bogota’s book fair, which this year honored the late Nobel Prize-winning author.

The National Police’s official Twitter account said Friday only that the book had been found. It said details would be released later.

The first edition is just one of 8,000 copies published in 1967 by the Argentine editorial house Sudamericana and a signed copy like the one stolen in Bogota can command as much as $23,000 online.
