Iceland could join the European Union as early as next year, according to the Social Democratic Alliance chairman Arni Pall Arnason, as long as there is an EU friendly government in power after the 27 April election.
Although the centre-right Independence Party, usually the party of government in Iceland, is favourite to reclaim power from the Social Democratic Alliance and the Left-Green Party coalition.
