Microsoft has just announced Windows 8 during the Build Keynote at Anaheim, California – that's not big news in itself, but the fact that Microsoft has showcased Windows 8 ARM powered tablets is important, as this is the first time they're showing off some real hardware, running on real ARM CPUs with Windows 8 and Metro UI.

ARM processors are very popular in tablets and mobile phones, but have never before been used with the Windows platform, so this marks the first time that Microsoft is entering the ARM arena with a desktop/netbook/tablet operating system, other than the Windows Phone 7 OS.

Metro UI is the new touch-friendly interface in Windows 8, which is partially revealed in the picture above.
