Up to now, Germany’s efforts to fight Islamic State have been limited to supporting Kurdish fighters in northern Iraq. But this might soon change.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Germany is preparing to join military intervention against Islamic State in Syria. The plans, emerging a day after a meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President François Hollande in Paris, however, will not immediately involve a combat role for German troops.
