The regional council of the Veneto Region voted 30 to 15 in favour of holding a referendum for independence.
The referendum, which according the Italian Constitution is not valid, will have to be organised within the next six months and will become “valid” if half of Venetian population casts a ballot.
The foreseen costs, an estimated €14m, will be covered through private donations from citizens and entrepreneurs and not by the regional administration.
