As European foreign ministers remained divided over pushing weaponry into Syria, the US turned to Russia to bring Damascus to the negotiating table.

On 27 May, US Secretary of State John Kerry told a briefing after his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Paris that both Washington and Moscow are committed to the Geneva Communiqué that aims to coordinate the formation of a transitional government involving all parties in the violence-plagued Syria.
