Belgian prosecutors on Monday revealed the true identity of Soufiane Kayal, the Paris attack accomplice of Salah Abdeslam arrested on Friday.
His real name is Najim Laachraoui and traveled to Syria to fight for IS in February 2013. He traveled as Kayal with Salah Abdelslam and Mohamad Belkaid from Syria via Hungary and Austria back to Belgium in September 2015.
Under the same false identity, Laachraoui also rented an apartment in Auvelais, near the town of Namur, Belgium, from where the November 2015 attacks in Paris were planned. Laachraoui’s DNA was found on explosives used during the attacks in Paris in November 2015.
Abdelslam, arrested last Friday, was a Belgian citizen, second generation Moroccan. Blekaid was a 35 year old illegal migrant from Algeria; he was shot dead during a police raid in the Forest quarter of Brussels last Tuesday.
