Not so long ago, a border separated Slovenia and the Italian city of Trieste. When the Schengen Agreement (resulting in the creation of Europe’s borderless Schengen Area) came into force in Slovenia, a cool breeze of freedom swept across Trieste – a city that had once been surrounded by a threatening Yugoslavia and then by a more peaceful Slovenia. 

In any case, this border had always been a serious issue for Trieste even if this coastal city has enjoyed a vibrant multicultural atmospher...
