In a Eurobarometer survey 71% of EU citizens have declared that they support more competition for routes on their national and regional railways.
Support for competition was over 60% in all but two EU countries, with only Luxembourg and the Netherlands, who had 24% of respondents saying they opposed increased competition, expressing their doubts about the necessity to have more journeys put up for tender.
