This year alone 1.2 billion Euro has been set aside, the largest single amount ever in the history of EU research, underlining the economic and societal importance of ICTs for Europe.


If 2006 was good, 2007 promises to be better. Building on previous work, the European Commission’s Directorate General for Information Society and Media expects a number of important initiatives to be implemented in 2007. For example, following the launch of the 7th Framework Programme for R&D, there are signs of overwhelming interest in participating in our information and communications technologies (ICTs) work programme.
