Tourism in the EU28 has been significantly boosted in 2013, with the number of nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments having reached a peak of 2.6 billion nights, up by 1.6% compared with 2012, according to Eurostat. Tourism in the EU has been increasing steadily since 2003, and was only interrupted in 2008 and 2009 due to the financial crisis.
