The Czech Telecommunications Office (CTU) has ordered the country’s dominant fixed-line operator Cesky Telecom (CT) to interconnect its network with Czech On Line’s (COL) network for providing ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line technology) services, COL’s spokeswoman Stanislava Beyerova told Interfax recently. COL is the first alternative telecom operator with access to CT’s network. Other firms are expected to follow. COL said CTU’s decision will allow for an as yet unspecified drop in end-user prices as the firm will be buying ADSL services from CT for prices regulated by the CTU, rather than wholesale prices set by CT. The regulated price will be some 40 percent lower than the 707 Czech crowns a month currently charged.
