European Parliament president Antonio Tajani announced his meeting with the UK Prime Minister Theresa May 20 April in London.
The two are expected to discuss post-Brexit notification position of the European Parliament. Since the negotiating guidelines of the European Parliament, passed with an overwhelming majority on 5 April through a resolution during the last sitting, Tajani is expected to present the resolution to the British Prime minister.
Earlier in the day and before the meeting was announced by Tajani, May has called a snap general election for 8 June, in order to secure a clear withdrawal mandate over elections.
However, according to what an EU official has clarified to New Europe, since Michel Barnier is the appointed chief coordinator of Brexit negotiations and the European Commission is expected to draft its Recommendation on 22 May, nothing in terms of negotiations should be expected from the meeting.
Tajani will meet with NGOs to discuss the rights of EU citizens in the UK, as an issue of key priority.
