Slovakia’s Fico readies to win March 5 election


Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is heading towards a certain victory in the parliamentary elections on March 5.

As reported by the Reuters news agency, the 51-year-old Social Democracy is maintaining an anti-immigration alliance with his European Union neighbours, Hungary's Viktor Orban and Poland's Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

Opinion polls show Fico's Smer party will win 32.5-38.4% of the vote, enough to retain power with a coalition partner or two.

Many in Brussels are watching the election...
