Singapore unveils regulation for news sites, Yahoo

Online media will need licenses to operate in the country


From 1 June, websites which have more than 50,000 unique visitors from Singapore every month and publish at least one local news article a week must obtain a license from the Media Development Authority (MDA), including local Yahoo News, the institution informed.

Under the license, websites will be required to delete “prohibited content”, like articles that undermine “racial or religious harmony” within 24 hours of being notified by the authority.
