The EU Council adopted the new Regulation which will improve the transparency in the area of food, and reinforce the role of the European Food Safety Authority.
The regulation is a response to the European Citizens’ Initiative and builds upon the findings of the fitness check of the General Food Law Regulation, completed in January 2018. It aims to increase the transparency of the EU risk assessment in the food chain, and to strengthen the reliability of the studies used by European Food Safety Authority.
The regulation will be published in the Official Journal in September and will become applicable in spring 2021.
