Rajoy calls general elections in Spain on December 20

Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy, announced during an interview with journalist Gloria Lomana that the nation will hold general elections on 20 December 2015.


Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy announced that the much-anticipated Spanish general elections will take place only five days before Christmas, in December 20.

Spanish daily El Pais, reported that many officials from the Popular Party had been expecting a December 13 date, believing December 20 to be too close to Christmas. According to the El Pais, the officials fear that abstention will be high in the forthcoming elections as many Spaniards will likely be on holiday.
