Risk is a key part of policy making, but continued mistrust in EU and national legislators has made many lawmakers averse to risk, adopting a cautious approach to legislation.
Speaking at the European Risk Summit in Dublin on 11 June, MEP Julie Girling said that the European Parliament is “extremely sensitive to risk,” meaning that risk-taking is all too often associated with political failure. The European Parliament, she says, is “worryingly risk averse.”
