There is going to be an election in Ireland. Not much in the way of an arresting opening, granted,  but this time, we are promised, everything will be different; the doors will be blown off, everything is up for grabs. Except, of course, it isn't. There will be a change of government, but there will be no change. The country still has debts to pay.

Brian Cowen's Fianna Fáil-led government have not so much slain the Celtic Tiger, but refused to let it out of its cage, keeping it on...
