Pakistan religious groups oppose law protecting women from abuse


Pakistan’s oldest Islamic political party convened an all-parties conference attended by powerful religious groups on March 15 to call on the government to retract an “un-Islamic” law that protects female victims of violence.

As reported by the Reuters news agency, the Women's Protection Act, passed by Pakistan's largest province of Punjab last month, gives legal protection to women from domestic, psychological and sexual violence.
