The 15th Annual Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE, taking place in Brussels, elected last week as its new President, EPP candidate Goran Lennmarker, the leading politician of the Swedish Moderaterna party.
The Chairman of the EPP-ED Group in the OSCE PA and Vice President of the Assembly Panos Kammenos, expressed his delight with the result: “I am particularly pleased that our candidate, Goran Lennmarker, was elected President of the OSCE PA. This is a great victory for the EPP since it is the first time in recent memory that we managed to elect the President of the OSCE PA,” stressed Kammenos.
“Apart from the President, our group also elected its two vice-presidential candidates and all of its proposals for the three Committees of the Assembly. Clearly, our Group has become the most influential in the OSCE PA and we will make sure that the Assembly will become a pivotal component of the OSCE,” Kammenos concluded.
EPP President Wilfried Martens also expressed his great satisfaction for the election of Goran Lennmarker. “The election of Goran Lennmarker as president of the OSCE PA will mark a new era for the organisation – I could not imagine anyone better suited for this post. Panos Kammenos and our Group have done excellent work in giving the EPP a strong voice in the OSCE PA,” said Martens.
