For the past 20 years, immigration has been an issue open to all sorts of speculation and debate.  Today, we can observe a dispute between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameroon, who has of late become rather mesmerised with the idea of populism. The issue at stake is the free movement of European Union citizens.

It is a dispute generated by a unique situation marked by the mass influx of immigrants from Asia and Africa and from EU countries as well.
