The White House is working with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to drastically limit the use of scientific research to determine public health regulations, despite the fact that it will reduce the scientific underpinnings of government policymaking. The excuse is that such findings are based on confidential medical records that should be protected.

This is frotesque hypocrisy as the US government keep for its citizens and many non-US citizens throughout the world all kinds of personal records like emails, telephone conversations, personal attitudes, and movements through Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms, credit cards, tax statements, travel records, etc., etc, etc.

The point, however, is not what they do in Washington but what they do in Europe. Despite the EU’s lapsus libertatem, at the end of the day Brussels always follows the principle “monkey see, monkey do.
