The European Union’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini concluded her three-day visit to Japan having represented the EU at the enthronement ceremony of Emperor Naruhito.

Mogherini also met with her Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, and the Minister of Defence, Taro Kono. The meetings covered topics ranging from connectivity, security, and defence matters, the EU-Japan Partnership on Sustainable Connectivity and Quality Infrastructure, as well as two sides’ bilateral Strategic Partnership and Economic Partnership agreements.

Mogherini also exchanged views with the ministers on regional and international issues, including the Korean Peninsula, the South China Sea, the Gulf Region, and both Europe and Japan’s ongoing peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan.
