Migrant smugglers arrested with the support of Europol and Eurojust

EU interior ministers are to hold emergency talks on 14 September 2015 aimed at improving the bloc's response to the current migration crisis, the European Union's rotating presidency announced. Europe is grappling with the biggest flow of migrants since World War II. Many of them are fleeing war-torn countries such as Syria and Afghanistan, risking their lives in perilous journeys to reach affluent Western states.

In a joint action supported by Europol and Eurojust, the French and Romanian authorities arrested on 17 June 11 members of an organized crime group involved in the smuggling of 308 migrants to the UK.
Firearms and around €480 000 in cash were seized during the house searches in Romania. The migrants were mostly from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and Palestine.
