Merkel ‘s diplomatic roller-coaster: first Trump then Putin

Chancellor Angela Merkel is in a diplomatic roller-coaster amidst a political minefield.

She is meeting President Donald Trump on Friday, for the first time since his election. And on Thursday, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin confirmed that a bilateral meeting has been fixed for May 2 in Moscow, Reuters reports. That is the first bilateral rather than conflict-mediation meeting since 2014.
