MEPs called on the European Commission not to allow the genetically modified maize crop Pioneer 1507 enter the EU market, because its insect-resistant pollen might harm butterflies and moths that do not pose a threat to crops.

As Dagmar Roth-Behrendt, a German member of the S&D group, who opposed the maize approval, stated: “Based on this proposal, we are clearly lacking evidence on the safety of this new GMO strain to have it on the EU markets."
