Nathalie Loiseau, the leading MEP from French President Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance party, has vowed not to run for the presidency of Renew Europe, the newly renamed group of Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the European Parliament.

Loiseau explained that she would not put her name forward for the presidency as she hopes to ensure that the Renaissance delegation will have “the positions that will have the greatest influence”, a reference to the party vice-presidencies of the European Parliament and presidencies in European Parliament Committees.
The French delegation is by far the largest with 21 elected members.
