Latvia has officially being allowed to join the Euro.

This is not necessarily a surprise; the country has been singled-out by Brussels as something of a success story, with Prime Minister Vlasis Dombrovskis being seen as a poster boy for austerity. From an EU point of view, Latvia has ticked all the boxes.
