The European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, could have been in New York, along with nearly one third of the College in the last week, but someone had to stay on ‘this side’ of the atlantic and run the show. After all, the EU is currently facing an unprecedented refugee crisis.

With certain Commissioners flying out to the UN General Assembly, but not having an active role in New York, Juncker felt it was necessary to point out that Commissioners in fact need to put in a written request to his office, and that it is the “sole prerogative of the President to release Members of the Commission form their obligation to be present…”

This isn’t camp kids… Attendance is necessary, no matter what superstars you get to take selfies with.
