Hamburg’s decision threatens the Open Source community


The download manager JDownloader has been declared illegal in Germany by the Hamburg Regional Court.

The earlier beta version of the software included a feature which enabled the downloading of copyrighted and protected encrypted video streams, and, according to the court, this represented a evasion of an “effective technological measure” under Section 95a of Germany’s Copyright Act.
