The International Contact Group met at ministerial level on 23 September in New York and reaffirmed the need for a peaceful and democratic solution to the Venezuelan crisis through transparent presidential elections.

The Group welcomed the participation for the first time of Panama as full member.

The members expressed their concern at the temporary suspension of the Oslo facilitated talks, as well as at the gravity of the findings of the report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the situation in the country.

They welcomed the recent release from prison of the vice-president of the National Assembly, Edgar Zambrano, and stressed that all other political prisoners arbitrarily detained should be immediately released.

The group stressed the need for adequate conditions for the deployment of specialized national and international humanitarian organizations, and called on donors to increase humanitarian finance.
