EU’s foreign policy chef, Federica Mogherini, and the the foreign ministers of Portugal, Augusto Santos Silva, and of Uruguay, Rodolfo Nin Novoa, in representation of the International Contact Group, met at the United Nations in New York with the foreign Ministers of Canada, Chrystia Freeland, of Peru, Néstor Popolizio, and of Chile, Roberto Ampuero, in representation of the Lima group.
They discussed the situation in Venezuela, in particular the efforts to contribute to a political, peaceful and democratic solution, through free and fair election, and agreed to continue to work together in denouncing human rights violations in the context of the Human Rights Council and other multilateral bodies.
Both groups committed to continue providing humanitarian assistance to the Venezuelan population and affected neighboring countries.
