On the night 25-26 February 1992, 613 Azerbaijani civilians of Khojaly were killed during the Armenian assault of their city and their attempted flight to reach the neighboring Aghdam district. Their names are engraved on the Memorial dedicated to the Khojaly massacre in the centre of Baku. The Khojaly massacre was the event with the highest death toll in such a short time throughout the whole duration of the armed conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh which became a full-scale war in 1991-1992.
