Anti-government protesters in Hong Kong have occupied the city’s Legislative Council building amid intense demonstrations against the local administrative government, which is loyal to the Chinese Communist Party in Beijing.

The European Union has called for restraint and dialogue, saying, “The actions today of a small number of people and who attempted to force their way into the Legislative Council premises are not representative of the vast majority of demonstrators who have been peaceful throughout the successive protests.”

“In the wake of these latest incidents, it is all the more important to exercise restraint and to engage in dialogue and consultation to find a way forward,” the EU’s statement read.
