On the occasion of the 66th annual meeting of the UN General Assembly, Climate Action  Commissioner Connie Hedegaard is visiting New York from 18-22 September to participate in a series of high-level meetings on preparing the UN climate conference in Durban, South Africa, at the end of 2011.

Another meeting takes place on 18-19 September, in which the commissioner will participate and the issue of Global Sustainability will be discussed, which has been mandated to formulate a global blueprint for sustainable growth and low-carbon prosperity ahead of the 'Rio +20' UN Conference on Sustainable Development to be held in June 2012.

The commissioner will also speak at a meeting of the Troika of Women Leaders on Gender and Climate Change on 20 September , hosted by Irish former president Mary Robinson, and at a 'Leaders' Dialogue' on climate change hosted by Mexico and South Africa. On 22 September, Hedegaard will hold talks with US Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern. During her visit, she will also hold bilateral meetings with ministers and senior officials from many countries, including Japan, Mali, Tunisia, Nepal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Turkey and Nauru.
