There was singing and dancing in the streets of Brussels as against stiff opposition, the Belgian football team went through to the next round. 

The news that Jean-Claude Juncker had finally been nominated by the European Council for the presidency of the Commission went more or less unnoticed by all but the Brussels bubble.

This nomination is being held as a giant leap for European democracy. In truth is it is a small improvement that reveals more about what is wrong than right.
