Germany's Green party has overtaken Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU/CSU) to become the most popular party in the country, according to an opinion poll published at the weekend.
The Greens are currently polling at 27%, 1% higher than the CDU/CSU. Meanwhile, the Social Democrats have fallen to a historical low of 12%, the Eurosceptic Alternative for Germany (AfD) is holding its ground at 11%, and the liberal FDP at 8%.
