Germany’s ruling coalition, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its Bavarian sister-party, the Christian Social Union (CSU), have backed Frank-Walter Steinmeier to be the next candidate for the presidency. The decision followed talks among party leaders on November 14.
“We have come to an agreement, CSU and CDU,” CSU leader Horst Seehofer said. "That is what's important."
