A €1 billion state-of-the-art complex that will house Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND) opened on February 8 with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on hand to inaugurate the new 26-hectare facility in Berlin.

The BND is one of two intelligence agencies in Germany along with the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, which recently attracted media attention for its investigations into the far-right Alternative for Germany party.
