Angela Merkel’s centre-right coalition has announced a raft of new welfare proposals, in the hope that it will be attractive to voters a year before the federal elections.
Included in the package is an increase in child benefits, the unpopular €10 surcharge to visit a doctor will be cancelled, and there will be a reduction in  pension contributions that will be cut from 19.6% to 18.9% of salaries.
