France ready to assist new Libyan government even on military front

Libya's unity government's Prime Minister-designate Fayez al-Sarraj chairs a meeting of the presidential council with Tripoli municipal council in Tripoli, Libya, 31 March 2016.

National Salvation government head Khalifa Ghwell called the members of the new Libyan government “infiltrators” and said he was giving them a last chance to “leave or surrender.”

The new UN-backed Libyan government will have the support of the French government even on the military front, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said on Friday.

“Libya is a concern shared by all the countries of the region and beyond,” Ayrault said in an interview with a French newspaper and added. “The chaos which reigns there today aids the rapid development of terrorism (referring to the expansion of the Islamic State in Libya). It is a direct threat to the region and to Europe.”
