Top football players and senior club figures were arrested on 28 May after the Spanish National Police searched eight houses across the country in connection with an investigation on match-fixing, money laundering, and organised crime.

Code-named “Operation Oikos”, the Europol assisted raids seized €100.000 in cash and uncovered evidence that a criminal network had selected several matches to fix and approached players to take part in the scheme.
