Nearly one million reservists in Finland were contacted by the armed forces by email on May 2. Officials said the mass mailing was simply aimed at developing better communication with reservists and to inform about what their role would be in a “crisis situation”.
The director of communications of the Finnish Defence Forces, Mika Kalliomaa, told Finland’s YLE public television that the decision to email reservists should not be interpreted as a sign of a security threat.
