EU urges developing states to help relaunch world trade talks


European Union trade chief Peter Mandelson on Sept. 4 urged ministers from Brazil, India and South Africa, who were to meet in Rio de Janeiro, to help revive the crippled Doha global trade talks. Mandelson, speaking to the European Parliament, also criticised the US for having dismissed as “Doha Lite” a compromise on liberalising farm trade forged at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) this summer.
