The European Union Training Mission (EUTM)is today officially launched in order to help rebuild Mali’s army. Around 500 instructors and support staff from 22 EU states are going to train Malian soldiers with a view to fight the armed rebels that want to seize the country. The operation is expected to last at least 15 months and is estimated to cost around 12.3 million euros. However, EUTM will not get involved in combat operations.
