After nearly a year, the Council of the EU decided on 17 June to revoke the framework for restrictive measures against the Maldives for obstructing an inclusive political solution, as well as persons and entities responsible for human rights violations, as institutions such as Parliament and the judiciary were being prevented from functioning properly. No persons or entities were listed under this sanctions regime.
The government confirmed its commitment to consolidate democracy and promote respect for human rights during the fourth annual policy dialogue between the Maldives and the EU on 11 March.
