Inflation within the EU-28 area fell to 1.7%, down from 2.0% in November, according to Eurostat.

Greece and Portugal saw the lowest annual rates at 0.6%, while the highest figures were in Estonia and Romania, with 3.3% and 3.0% inflation, respectively.

The lowest annual figure in the EU from 2008 to 2018 was seen in January 2015 at -0.5%, when consumer prices dropped, while the highest annual inflation rate was at 4.4% in July 2008.
