On the occasion of the World Cancer Day (February 4), the EU draws attention to its efforts to fight this disease that remains a key public health concern at a global level. In 2012, an estimated 1.4 million new cases of cancer in men and 1.4 million in women were recorded in the EU. In the same year, approximately 707 000 men and 555 000 women died from cancer. Being the second most common cause of death in the European Union, more effort is needed to fight this fatal disease.
