Enlargement: Poland’s Miller floats May 2003 date for EU referendum


Prime Minister Leszek Miller Saturday before last floated May 2003 as a possible date for a binding referendum on Polish membership in the European Union in 2004. Miller said May is a month rich in history and symbolism for Poles, making it ideal for the referendum. His ex-communist social democratic government is hoping to attract at turn out of at least 50 percent, as well as a majority “yes” vote.
